Hajj and Umrah

Hajj (Pilgrimage) and its Excellence - Riyaadus SaaliheenAllah, the Exalted, says: "And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka`bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e., denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the `Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists).'' (3:97)

Virtues of Prophet(saw)'s Masjid in Madinah The Foundation of the Prophet(saw)’s Mosque was Laid on Piety

Prophet(saw)’s mosque is one of those mosques whose foundation was laid on piety. This is described in the Qur’an and Hadith. Allah Ta’ala states in al-Tawbah 108:

‘Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure.’

Common Health problems during Hajj To fully appreciate the physical dimensions of the Hajj let us consider the Hajj as a dynamic system. On arrival you are going to be wearing the Ihram clothes and once in Makkah you have to go for Tawaf or the circumambulation the Ka'bah seven times and then perform the Sa'i; the act of jogging seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, a distance of 500 meters, i.e., a total distance of 3.5 kilometers. On Arafat day all Hujjaj must assemble on the Mount of Mercy from morning until sunset.

Haj is the 5th pillar of Islam. The Prophet Mohammed Sallallâhu Alaihi Wasallam did not introduce the performance of Haj. It can be said to be as old as the Ka’aba itself. Haj is a combination of both, physical and monetary ibâdat [devotion].

Haj was made compulsory in the 3rd year after the Hijrat. Allah says: "Haj of the Bait (Ka’aba) is compulsory on the people for the sake of Allah on those who have the means" (3:10)

Dear Haji General advice for those who intend to perform Hajj

  • Actions are judged according to the intention. Therefore one must sincerely intend only to perform Haj to fulfil the command of Allah Ta’ala and earn His pleasure. Let there be absolutely no worldly motive in one’s Haj. To also have some worldly motive together with the intention to perform Haj is like mixing milk with water.
