Be Good Towards Your Children

Children are a priceless blessing. They are a source of sustained blessing (baraka) in the home. Indeed, it is their presence that continuously attracts wholesome sustenance from Allah Ta’ala.

Children are a bundle of innocence (ma’soom). It is therefore no surprise that they’re enshrouded with the glorious mercy of Allah Ta’ala. As a matter of fact, they’re also a means of preventing many calamities.

Our beautiful children are a great trust (amaanah) unto the parents who are totally accountable for their correct nurturing (tarbiyyah), education (ta’leem) and upbringing (tanshi’a).

Those parents, who stand out in taking care of their “golden jewels” and manage this responsibility with tender loving care and affection, are special in the “sight” of Allah Ta’ala. Then there are those loving parents who go to great lengths in providing wholesome food, clothing and shelter for their offspring: such parents are guaranteed a handsome reward in both the worlds.

In this world, they’ll be leaving behind a posterity that will send “sadaqa-e-jãriya” such as reciting the Noble Quran, regular duas for their parents, etc. is an invaluable gift for the deceased parents. However, the key to producing such “golden jewels” is a powerful Islamic educational programme (ta’leem), proper nurturing (tarbiyyah) and a sound upbringing (tanshi’a).

These basic elements are imperative in moulding the children for an “Allah-pleasing” life-style in preparation for the eternal hereafter.

Hadhrat Ayesha (RA) narrates that a poor woman had come to her door, requesting something to eat. She had two little daughters with her. Hadhrat Ayesha (RA) had nothing to give, except one date, which she handed to the mother. The grateful mother took the date, broke it into two halves and gave each of her daughter one piece each, and she had nothing of the date.

After the woman left, some while later, Nabi (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam) entered and Hadhrat Ayesha (RA) explained what had happened.

Upon hearing this, Nabi (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam) said that whoever Allah Ta’ala had entrusted these girls to, and that person fulfills the responsibility with sincere goodness, these children will surely become garments of protection against the fire of jahannam for their parents. (Bukhari Shareef)

The sacrifice of the parents for their children is a sure means of earning ease in the hereafter.

A mother’s love and bond towards her child is in itself a miracle.

However, many times more superior to this miracle is the fact that, Allah Ta’ala’s abiding and pure love for His creation is indeed much, much more than anything ever imaginable.
