Allahumma barik lana fie Rajab Wa Sha'baan wabaliegna Ramadan
On this Mubarak Day of Jummah, during this wonderful month of Rajab let us raise our hands and express our gratitude and appreciation to Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala for all our blessings. Today we cry to the heavens and earth that we are rededicating our lives as true Muslims in faith and action. We announce to the world that the Muslim Ummah seeks peace and mutual respect and that we will never remain idle in the face of injustice, racism, Fithnah, oppression and repression. This Ummah today is under siege and as Muslims we should make it known that we are not an inward looking people, we are not isolationists by our nature, but we are totally committed to our Din. And we wish to remain so.
O people of Imaan! We are a nation whom Almighty Allah has blessed with the heavenly title of "Ghair-al-Uman" - the best of all Ummah's. The Ummah of His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam. We must never loose sight of the fact that our life here on this earth is a mixture of pain and comfort. Each of these two states absorbs a portion of life. Every individual faces his and her own share of experiences and becomes a victim of pain and comfort from the trials and tribulations of life. It is according to this bitter fact that our lives fluctuates between pain and ease. As mere mortals, we can not change this eternal law which rules our lives so as to subject it to our own desires. Yet, after we come to realize the deep meaning of this life, we can direct our vision towards the beautiful side of existence and cast away the ugly entities which tarnish the fact of life in this vast universe.
This universe is filled with the amazement of creation and precision of wisdom; it tells us that every creature exists with an aim for which it has been created. On the other hand, we can ignore or forget the bright points in the universe and concentrate on the gloomy spots. The objective of the mission of our Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam was to purify human beings intellectually, morally and spiritually, to teach them the Divine precepts according to which they must regulate the affairs of their life, and to develop their intellectual capacities so that they may come out of error and advance on the path of human perfection, which is no other than the path of genuine civilization. Finally it is up to every individual to choose the direction of his or her thinking. Hence, choosing the colour and view of life he or she wishes to experience as we learn from from verse 35 of Surah Al-Ahzab:
"For Muslim men and women - for believing men and women,
for devout men and women, for true men and women, for
men and women who are patient and constant, for men and
women who humble themselves, for men and women who
give in charity, for men and women who fast (and deny
themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity,
and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise -
for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward."
O People of insight! From the above verse, a number of Muslim virtues are specified, but the chief stress is laid on the fact that these virtues are as necessary to women as to men. Both sexes have spiritual as well as human rights and duties in an equal degree, and the future "reward" of the Aghirah [Hereafter], viz, Spiritual Bliss, is provided for the one as for the other. The virtues referred to are: Faith, hope, trust in Allah, and in His Benevolent Government of the world; devotion and service in practical life; love and practice of truth, in thought and intention, word and deed; patience and constancy, in suffering and in right endeavour; humility, the avoidance of an attitude of arrogance and superiority; charity, i.e., help to the poor and unfortunate ones in life, a special virtue arising out of the general duty of service [No.2]; self-denial, typically in food, but generally in all appetites; chastity, purity in sex life, purity in motive, thought, word, and deed; and constant attention to Allah's Message, and cultivation of the desire to get nearer to Allah.
Today every individual throughout the world endeavours to achieve "social justice", "happiness", "freedom" and "tranquility" and struggles day and night to reach this dream in the fields of life which appear like war arenas. He or she fights in this field willingly, in most cases, to sacrifice everything in order to witness the bird of happiness fly over his or her head so that he or she may live beneath its shadow the rest of his or her life. Alas, it is unfortunate to see many people possessing various talents which qualify them to lead a life of happiness and satisfaction subjected to different factors which make their souls a toy for discomfort and insecurity. As a result, these individuals fall victim to the untrue dream that living happily is nothing but mere fiction, and that man's inevitable conclusion is to become a straw being tossed around by the fictitious waves of pain ending up on the bottom of the grave of disillusion and poverty.
O Ummatul Muslimeen! These pains of sufferings are not but the result of choosing false images over Truth. They have not followed that light of righteousness, nor have they resorted to a reliable segment on the path of life. Today we clearly observe that the quest for chasing after name and fame and the accumulation of world wealth have taken priority over virtue. People have today abandoned the good merits which are expected from the nation of Ghair-al-Uman to guard their souls from being destroyed under the feet of evilness of lust and uncontrolled wants. We find that human emotions too are in a state of struggle between life and death.
Lying, stinginess, cheating, hypocrisy, oppression, drinking, drugs, fornication, disrespect towards parents, wife and child abuse, and other lowly characteristics, all resembling an invincible dam blocking the stream of human happiness and perfection, have chained the hands of people and thrown them into the merciless waves of the ocean of relentless filth and damnation. Loneliness, individual pains, social disasters and various miseries in general are the result of the fall of human values and virtues. One need not be a rocket scientist to attest to the fact that without excellent virtues and spiritual guidance a human being would wander from the path of justice which leads him or her to the peak of greatness and perfection.
The basics on which the eternal Islamic faith was built by the greatest personality who walked upon the face of this earth, Nabee Muhammad Ibn Abdullah - Rahmatul Liel Ala'meen Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam, and which rely from the very first day on piety are those means of happiness that can bring comfort and joy in this world and in the Aghirah [Hereafter]. In fact, the Islamic Call was built on the bases which requires a human being to evaluate his or her spiritual value to the highest point by elevating the level of his or her beliefs to a chain of pure and praiseworthy values.
Islam, the Din of Haqq strictly prohibits a human being from sacrificing his or her excellent morals for the sake of his or her lusts and cravings. Islam stands in the face of those who dishonour humanity and fights them fiercely. So a society where in the individual and social ties are built on Islamic values enjoys tranquility, comfort and trust in all aspects. All its members enjoy equal rights, and observe the interpersonal relations set by the faith. Thus, giving other societies the opportunity to achieve the same, which is a perfect step towards a great civil revolution by mankind. May Almighty Allah keep us alive during Rajab and Sha'baan so that we can all welcome the great month of Ramadan, the month of Muhabbat, the month of caring and sharing and the month that we may "Tattaqoon" - experience Allah consciousness; that we may learn to guard against evil.
And all Praise is Allah's at every beginning and end.
And the end of all goals is the Love of the Exalted Creator.
Baarak -Allaahu Feekum wa sal-Allaahu wa-Salam 'alaa
